THE Mayor's Environment Advisor, Isabel Dedring will tomorrow (Tues Feb 9) face questions from the London Assembly about whether the mayor's plans are ambitious enough to improve recycling in the capital.
The Assembly's environment committee is meeting tomorrow to discuss waste management in the capital to inform its response to the mayor's draft Municipal Waste Management Strategy which was published in January.
London generates 4 million tonnes of municipal waste each year, most of which comes from households and small businesses.
The mayor hopes, through encouraging waste reduction, reuse and recycling, to achieve a 10 percent cut in the amount generated by each household by 2020, compared to 2008/9.
However, the Assembly's environment committee will tomorrow question whether this goes far enough and what the mayor intends to do to reduce the wide variations in recycling across different London boroughs.
The meeting will also discuss funding for the mayor's draft Municipal Waste Strategy, his plans for waste to energy infrastructure and whether he supports the call for a mixed plastics recycling facility in London.
