Boy Crisis: The latest band from Wesleyan University preparing for world domination
by Tim Cole

Merseybeat-wot? Madchester-pah! It's the sound of Wesleyan University in Middletown, Connecticut, USA, that is slowly taking over the world.

It was MGMT who took the planet by storm first with the multi-million selling Oracular Spectacular, but with Chairlift, Amazing Baby and Boy Crisis all arriving from the same musical womb, it is beginning to look like the hotbed of late-noughties talent.

The single Dressed To Digress, released by Boy Crisis yesterday, is a party piece of fun-funk with falsetto soaring over electro grooves - and crazy lyrics.

Last year's debut track, L-Homme, showed the way this Wesleyan coincidence is actually a movement, with Caroline Polachek of Chairlift providing vocal support on a sexed-up piece of electro-disco.

This time it is fast-paced pop with a real sense of urgency, a pounding bassline, talking a bout a trip to I-raq and Djibouti.

It begins 'Fresh to death and dressed to digress, I'm just a tiger and I'm looking for a tigress, my guess is that you might bless, me with your holy water just like you were the pope baby.'

You get a load of breathy Prince-style purring 'Let me love you like you're the shit girl' and some amazing choices of rhyming words that would have passed any sane person by.

'Woodrow Wilson' and 'carry my children,' 'Bruce Springsteen' and 'pass the stringed beans.' You get the picture.

The album will definitely be one to listen to.

* Dressed To Digress is out now on B-Unique Records.
