Needs debate

27 July 2005
A conference to look at the health and social needs of refugees and asylum seekers has been held in the borough.

The event at Brent Town Hall aimed to raise awareness by sharing experiences and offering help and advice to people in need.

Organiser Paul Burns said: "Refugees make a positive contribution to the borough.

"The vast majority seek no special support or temporary measures to assist their healing and integration, and make a valuable economic and cultural contribution to the borough.

"However, they may have particular health and social needs that relate to their forced migration and it is important that service providers are aware of these issues.
